Hotshots a good start in the mining industry

Many people through the Goldfields-Esperance region will know him from his days spent as a Plant Fitter, but for the past two years Ray Norton has been working to fast track his company’s growth as a hotshot services company catering to the mining industry of Australia.

Ozzi Express has built itself a reliable name due to the dedication Ray and his team have in ensuring goods are delivered to their different mining locations in a timely manner.

Ozzi Express offers 24/7 services and works for some of the state’s major transport and mining companies, as well as taking fast freight for freight companies.

Starting out with delivering around Western Australia, Ozzi Express now works closely with companies based in the Pilbara and the Northern Territory. The company also has the capacity to deliver to South Australia and as far as the East Coast.

Competitive rates and an honest and reliable service are the key ingredients that have enabled Ozzi Express to expand across WA, as well as an increased demand for a fast, on-time transport.

Ray tells us that his pick-up and deliveries happen in single or two-person teams, depending on fatigue management and customer requirements, completing various trips around Australia from 100km to 7000km per trip.

As well as Ray, Ozzi Express has another well-known name in the industry. ‘Slim’, lead driver/operator at Ozzi Express. Slim comes with vast mine haulage experience and a good knowledge of WA mines and road locations, including having an existing network throughout Australia.

The company will soon be establishing a base in Perth, catering for not only the Pilbara, but into Kalgoorlie and from there interstate.

If you’re interested in acquiring hotshot services, head to Ozzi Express on the Worthy Parts National Services Directory.

DMS returns from the red centre with Variety Children’s Charity

Our red centre travellers, Kristy and Brett of DMS have returned from their 7-day 4WD trip with Variety the Children’s Charity, giving us a first-hand recap of what took place throughout their adventure.

Just over two weeks ago, Kristy and Brett embarked on a 20-car fleet voyage through to Uluru.

The track took the pair off road 80 percent of the time, visiting remote locations where permits were required.

The pair spent the trip divided into two roles, Brett was the driver and Kristy the navigator, which she said was made easier by small pieces of tape that marked most of the track.

Lunches would take place in random spots on the track, some as remote as to be 300kms with nothing around them.

The voyage had three groups to help with the navigation of the trip and maintain the flow of cars, ensuring no body stopped for too long.

A husband and wife team who were on the committee, would go ahead every day and remark the track.

They then waited for drivers and checked them in, the sweepers and mechanics stayed behind all the cars to ensure everyone gets on track on time and the main host Bill stays in the middle.

Throughout the trip the crew visited three schools and had the entertainer Libby sing educational songs to the children.

Kristy noted that the most memorable night was the Sounds of Silence fine dining experience under the stars between Uluru and the Olgas where they had a special tour performed with a laser pointer to the start explaining the consolations.

The last activity was to Segway around Uluru, an activity that Kristy said was a lot more difficult than they first imagined.

A variety 4wd Formal concluded the tour, announcing fines that were given throughout the trip, one for example was being fined if you didn’t have your designated rock on you.

The pair are prepared for what is in stall next year, with plans to commence fundraising over the coming months.

Kristy and Brett say the stories of fundraising that the committee shared over the trip was the key to ensuring they head back next year and encourage anyone wanting to fundraise for the charity to get in touch and do the same.

Workshop Foreman by week, Moto X Rider by Weekend.

As most people rugged up to brave the first cold long weekend of the winter season, Chris Hallett from Boyes Equipment Svs prepared for a three day Moto X event, camping and hitting the dirt tracks at the Manjimup 15000.

It’s no surprise that after 14 years as a Workshop Foreman, Chris enjoys his weekends spent with family, friends and more machinery – a 2017.5 KTM 450 SX factory edition to be specific.

Over the past 10 to 11 years, the competitive Moto X rider has competed in over 40+ competitions across the state which included events like the Finke Desert Race, with this year’s focus on the Manjimup 15000, the largest Moto X event in Western Australia.

The weekend’s event pulled some of the bigger names from the east coast such as Kirk Gibbs and Dean Ferris to the track, located 300kms south of Perth.

The event ran from Friday June 1st to Sunday June 3rd, with Junior, Senior, women and Veteran riders entering into the two-day racing event.

Chris competed in the MX Nationals Veteran Championship level against 30+ other competitors, having placed 20th, 19th, 19th, 18th – Chris was able to average out his times to come home 20nd overall for the two days of racing.

The weekend’s event had over 600 riders ranging across all divisions.

We asked Chris what his next venture in racing would be, and he said he’ll be focussing on the Kalgoorlie and Esperance Club rounds from here on, expecting to take part in Bunbury state round in July, King of the Cross (Southern Cross) later in the year and then to finish off at the Wanneroo state round.

Worthy Parts are a proud sponsor of Chris, and supporting events located around the regions. Find out more about Worthy Parts Sponsorship here.

The red centre awaits Goldfields business owners of DMS

Imagine the fulfillment you’d attain from a 7-day 4WD challenge through to Australia’s red centre.

Now add the fact that the trek is hosted by Variety Children’s Charity and your fundraising has contributed to raising over $80,000 towards WA children.

This is the exact sentiment felt by Kalgoorlie’s Brett and Kristy of Dynamic Maintenance Solutions as they embarked on the start of an adventure of a lifetime on Saturday May 26th.

Before they set off for their first stop, Laverton, we spoke to Kristy to find out more on what the plan of attack was for the next week on the road.

Usually our conversations are centred around hydraulic cylinder repairs and major servicing and repairs to mining and earth moving equipment (you can find out more about that on the DMS Directory Listing), but this time it was all about the couple’s purpose for participating.

Kristy enlightened us on a story about a WA child who last year had a custom-made bike created for her with the funds raised from trips like the 4WD Challenge, at a cost of $20,000.

Kristy and Brett felt strongly that all children deserve the right to experience riding a bike as well as other simple activities that take place in your childhood.

The 4WD Challenge also allows you to see where the money that you’ve raised goes to, with a focus on practical equipment and experiences.

Kristy and Brett registered and immediately commenced fundraising.

Now as they embark on the trip, the couple have raised a total of $6,500 for variety, which they’ve said is due to the huge amount of support given by local business owners as well as friends and family.

The trip overall will allow them to visit a range of remote communities on the way to their destination, Uluru which is a first for the 4WD Challenge.

Kristy’s confession that a fine system will be implemented along the way for different actions on the trip, contributing to Variety’s grand total which currently sits at $87,222.

We look forward to catching up with Kristy and Brett upon their return.

CONNECTING BUSINESSES THROUGHOUT AUSTRALIA

Worthy Parts celebrated its fourth year in trading in 2018, alongside the launch of a new National Services Directory. An innovative advertising platform,  specifically designed for ‘Service Providers’ in the mining and construction industries.

With the launch of the new Service Directory Jesica McKenzie joined the Worthy Parts team and has been meeting clients from all over Australia.

FAST GROWTH

With over 500,000 website visitors in 2017, our unique business model, has fast become the go to website to sell and source parts across the construction and mining industry. Even though business is thriving, and many new opportunities have presented themselves, we still pride ourselves on honesty and integrity by staying true to our business model – “We have set out to become the Direct industry link, connecting you with others” .

Not your standard advertising platform, Worthy Parts has set up as a supplier to many of the mining and contract companies! We can facilitate the transaction of parts sales for members, because of this our growth has been rapid, and we have identified the need to develop innovative technology to improve on your customer experience.

FRESH APPROACH

The New Service Directory offers a brand-new layout with many features including the ability for members to upload parts, photos, business information, check audience statistics and customer enquiries. The website took into consideration user experience, as well as achieving an affordable annual price. Whilst other industries can see immediate success from social media sites, the mining and construction industry required a trusted platform that concentrated on connecting and promoting trustworthy businesses.

Our aim is to deliver a reliable and trusted network of Service Providers which is quite exclusive to be a part of. Our audience should feel comfortable when buying parts or services.”

ADVANCE YOUR BUSINESS

The aim of the National Services Directory is to allow audiences the opportunity to perform a quick search specific to a region they require a service in, and on the contrary, a business can list its services specific to the regions it caters to.

“In the business world today, there is more emphasis on businesses having an online presence to connect to existing customers and gain new leads, we can attest to this as we see it firsthand everyday with our parts sales. Word of mouth is old-school thinking, as audiences are constantly looking to compare the best deal and best services, checking reviews and looking through activity to gauge the quality of service,”

RETURN ON INVESTMENT

The platform’s mobile friendly approach provides its audience the chance to directly contact the business direct from the platform, which provides the member an opportunity to gauge return on investment in terms of leads that derive from the site. Now the national services directory provides an industry specific platform that keeps the mining and construction industries advancing at the same speed as other industries in the tech world.

A MAN, A VAN, AND A BRAINLESS PLAN

Have an Idea? Worthy Parts was developed from an idea to resolve the waste in the second hand parts market by consolidating the resources available across the industry. In the few short years we’ve operated we’ve manage to grow nationally as the go to market place to source and sell your parts! Knowing how hard a start up can be  and also how rewarding it is to see an idea grow into a business, we love to encourage and witness our friends realise their ideas!

It’s even more awesome when it’s a  Worthy Parts team member who is fronting their own passion! We’ve had Tim on the team since 2016 and have been hearing about his ‘Brainless’ idea… and now look!!

Tim Brayshaw found his calling in the years spent as a Diesel Mechanic. Originally from the country outskirts of Victoria, the 28-year-old found himself amongst the grease and grime in rural Western Australia. It was here that “Brainless” was born.

“For the last five years, I’ve seen every kind of T-Shirt from all types of brands in the rag bin; a rag is your best friend as a mechanic”, he adds.

In the two years since the brand’s inception, Tim recalls his childhood dream of launching a clothing company that will span across Australia and beyond. “Being able to express a vision to the world through a fashion brand is my ultimate goal.”

The motivational energy can be felt through the Brainless motto: No Pressure, No Diamonds. “It’s the internal belief that you can achieve your greatest desires and goals. To be the best version of yourself in all things.”

Brainless is currently aimed at the free sports market, where Tim’s deep passion lies. “The pressure to get that landing, to ride that mountain, the first to the finish line: it’s the pressure you put on yourself that brings out your inner diamond.”

With his brand in motion and initial merchandise sales showing solid growth, Tim is set to travel across Australia to share the vision of Brainless to the masses. “Brainless has found another gear, so for me, I’ll just hold on to the handles and see where the ride takes me for now.”

Worthy Parts can’t wait to see where this brainless activity take Tim, we sure know it’ll be a ride and half. As Tim plans to work his way across Australia in the coming weeks, we’d be happy to have  him back in the workshop, but for now he’s a man in a van with a brainless plan…

MAMILS 800KM RIDE TO CONQUER CANCER

With commitment and dedication a team of 13 MAMILS made the 800KMs from Kalgoorlie Boulder’s red dirt to the metropolitan coast of Perth in a bid to raise awareness and much needed funding for the fight to cure cancer. All monies raised goes to funds for the for WA based Harry Perkins Institute for Cancer Research.

The 600KM Journey from Kalgoorlie Boulder to Perth took five days and was completed by a team of 13 cyclists. The team were joined by fellow MAMILS on the Saturday to finish the remaining 200kms left of the journey to Mandurah and back! A stellar effort by all involved, we look forward to hearing your final tally on monies raised! Worthy Parts are proud to have supported you all on this journey!

THEIR JOURNEY OCT 16th – 22nd….

Yesterday the group left Kalgoorlie in high spirits, leaving slightly later than expected due one of the travels vehicle requiring additional fuel supply. Departing from a fellow KAMILS house at approx. 1445 and arriving at Bullabulling mine site after 60kms of riding at approx. 1730. Rising early for a hearty breakfast, the KAMILS departed at 0620 travelling 160kms to Southern Cross arriving a little after 1500; all were tired as it had been a hard slog riding face first into a westerly wind. Spirits are high after a regenerative shower and change in clothes.

After arriving at Southern Cross yesterday afternoon, and everyone enjoying a shower and a change of clothes, it was off to dinner at the Southern Cross Palace Hotel. While walking to the Palace Hotel, we met another fundraiser who was walking from Melbourne to Geraldton – Sue, having a nice chat for 10 – 15 minutes we continued to our meal.

The meals were huge, and everyone enjoyed their fill, the publican upon hearing of why and what we were riding for, made a generous donation of a gold coin and two bottles of wine to be sold/auctioned for the RTCC.

Today started off a little later than yesterday with a 7am departure time; there were only a few groans as bums have taken the saddle; today was ‘only’ 100kms and to be set at a leisurely pace. I’m not sure all the team received this notification as top speed for today was 42.3km/h into a 28km/h headwind. We arrived at Merredin at approx. 1230 and peddling through town straight to the coffee shop as it was the one thing the group craved. While enjoying our coffee, good old facebook came through showing that the MAMILS/KAMILS had made the front page of the Kalgoorlie Miner. Heading back to the Merredin sign it was time for some group photo’s, one of our fellow MAMILS/KAMILS has recently purchased a DJI drone, which we put to good work.

Thursday saw the KAMILS rise at 5am for a 6am start, today leaving Merredin we had a 28km/h tail wind which was a HUGE relief over the last 3 days, the team set a blistering pace travelling 162kms in 4 hours and 48 minutes with an average speed for the day of 34km/h. Thursday was the only day an incident occurred which was due to a railway crossing, one bike received minor damage, and the other requires a new front wheel. No major injuries were sustained. We arrived at Northam at approx. 1pm, where it was shower and beer time.

Friday, we were excited to have the Kal leg nearly completed, starting at 530am we were up and rolling just after 630am, a few more hills to tackles before the day was over. Following the image of bike riders in lycra it was off for coffee at Dome. Rolling through to South Perth we finished the day at approx. 2pm, where our bikes were left to the care of the RTCC staff, after having checked in

Saturday morning, was a thriving atmosphere of excitement and inspiring speeches, over 850 riders had gathered to ride 200kms over 2 days, all having been touched in some way by cancer. The MAMILS received a hero’s send off during the 3rd wave to leave, the sheer number of people participating in the event and the number of support personnel, family, friends and people cheering on was elating. Saturday was a constant stream of meeting different people and individual rider’s abilities separated the ride out throughout the day, everyone met was supportive with words of encouragement and happiness, and anytime somebody was on the side of the road for either a ‘break’ or a breakdown, it was an endless choir of “are you okay or do you need a hand?”. Arriving to a hero’s welcome in Mandurah at 1:30pm, the MAMILS have enjoyed a break and being able to clean up before the night’s dinner, and presentations.

Sunday morning, the MAMILS were under by 630am, even though everyone’s legs were aching, and bums were throbbing, all were smiling and enjoying the atmosphere having a laugh. Sunday saw the MAMILS ride from Mandurah, along Rockingham foreshore up through to Fremantle, and continuing into South Perth, the day was quite warm which made for a fantastic ride with the sea breeze. Along the way family members of the MAMILS lined the road not to just support the MAMILS but anyone riding past. It’s surprising how much a cheer squad can increase your resolve to keep pushing that little bit harder on an incline. Arriving back into South Perth just after 1pm the MAMILS were greeted by family members and friends it was quite an emotional experience 800kms from Kalgoorlie + the RTCC for the KAMILS, and the overwhelmingness of the crowd.

ROCKDRILL REVIVAL

Worthy Parts are getting on board with the WA Rockdrill Club for their second event this year! The Beacon Minerals Coolgardie Day 125th Celebrations Rockdrill Championship. Coolgardie host an annual parade and street festival which draws a crowd of over 10,000 people to the goldfields town. This is the first year since 1996 a rockdrill has been held in the town.

It may seem a strange sport but Rockdrilling was once a staple on the country fairs circuits across Australia. Drillers use Sigma or Panter airleg’s to drill into a concrete face, the fastest driller/s for each event get the title of being the champion of their field. Pitted against rivals its makes for an adrenaline fuelled spectacle with drillers coming from all over Australia and some from overseas. Some events to look out for are the Northern Star Jack n Jill where men and ladies team together & the Maher Mining No Pusher, a challenge of boring through the block with no hydraulic arm, just pure strength and agility!

You can get more information on the event and down load the nominations form here! There is a $14,000 prize pool for this event! We can’t wait to catch up with some mates and cheer on our favourite drillers! See you there?
