Perth Company take on Global CSR strategy through support of a school construction project in Zambia

An up and coming mining contracting company, Mader Group, is leading the way for small to medium size businesses in mining and civil industries with an unparalleled social responsibility strategy that has left them shortlisted as a finalist in the category of Corporate Social Responsibility for the 2018/19 AIM WA Pinnacle Awards.

Recognising the opportunity that the mining sector has, to improve socio-economic development in remote and disadvantaged areas, Mader Group has been in engaging in an impressive scope of corporate initiatives with the mission to empower communities, improve social dynamics and lessen inequality.

Mader Group’s most recent feat ensures a more promising education to children in Solwezi, a town near the Company’s local Zambian office. Operating for a number of years out of the region, the Company decided to embark on a school extension construction project to improve the educational standards for their local community. With over 400 students sharing just two small classrooms, this project is expected to transform the school’s daily operations.

“While I was in Zambia I had the opportunity to help in the building of the new schools that Mader has sponsored. Talking to the principal that runs the education for this school, it really slammed home how much I took my schooling for granted.”

Stated Shanon Ferrier, a Mader Group employee who assisted with the build in the early stages of the construction project.

“This school teaches years 1 to 4. They all walk to school, some as far as 4kms one way. There were over 400 students but only 50 fit in the 2 classrooms that were built. The rest were scattered around churches in the area. To get through all the students, the children are broken up into 3 classes a day.”

Thanks to a generous donation of USD$30,000 and a lending hand by a select team of Mader’s Technical Advisors and Trainers, the Kijilamatambo School opened its doors to a sea of smiling faces earlier this month, with the grand opening hosting a congregation of more than 100 students, families and community members. The launch has been described as a rewarding spectacle and the journey as one that Mader employees will never forget.

Since 2005, Mader Group has steadily forged a reputation as the ‘go-to’ mechanically minded experts in the industry and is a known entity for their commitment to empowering communities and lessening educational inequality.

In the past 12 months, the Company has seen unprecedented growth, doubling its workforce throughout the major mining regions of Australia, Asia, Africa and America.
